Today there are more than 119 million followers of shinto in Japan. 2 thousand years ago, Japan was divided into many tribal units, The oldest religion in Japan is Shinto. A province is a region or district within a country. |

The shogun was the most powerful warlord, he controlled the military and the economic power, he controlled the law and taxes and had more political power than the emperor. Daimyo were just under the shogun, they controlled areas of land and ruled over who lived and work there. The power of the Daimyo depended on the size of their land. Samurais are under Daimyo. Then there was merchants, they were usually craftsmen or artsmen. Eta was at the bottom and in did all the jobs the others didnt want to do. Daimyos were medieval Japanese warriors, a bit like knights. |
